Hi! My name is Chelsi Krehmeyer, and I have worked as Family Medicine clinician in Gillette, WY for the past 17 years. I often see patients whom would benefit from starting a medication like Ozempic or Mounjaro, only to be denied coverage by insurance. Compounded medications are perfectly safe to take, as long as they are obtained by a trusted compounding pharmacy, and prescribed by a legitimate, trusted clinician. I routinely prescribe these medications for my patients, and have seen lots of success with weight loss, as well as overall health.
About the Medication
How Do GLP-1s Help with Weight Loss?
Both medications:
• Decrease hunger and food cravings
• Slow down gastric emptying (so you feel full longer)
• Reduce "food noise" or constant thoughts about food.
The end result is eating less without feeling deprived, making weight loss manageable.
Semaglutide (brand names Wegovy and Ozempic)
• mimics the GLP-1 hormone
Tirzepatide (brand name Mounjaro)
• mimics the GLP-1 hormone, in addition to the GIP hormone, making it work better for some.
- some report less nausea with the Tirzepatide.
Most common side effects include:
• mild nausea, diarrhea or constipation.
If you experience these symptoms, they should resolve as your body adjusts to the medication. These symptoms are minimized by starting on a low dose, and gradually increasing as needed.
I will personally review your health history, and determine if there are any concerns or contraindications to starting a GLP-1.
What exactly are compounded medications and are they safe?
Compounded GLP-1s are comprised of FDA-approved ingredients but the final mixture is not individually reviewed by the FDA. However, these preparations are strictly regulated for safety through state pharmacy boards and United States Pharmacopeia (USP) quality standards. I only use pharmacies that are PCAB accredited and require third party testing.
